And so begins, the next chapter of the rest of my life
- lost.

One of the key tenants of being an effective teacher is reflection. As a new educator, I feel like all I can do is self-analyze while also fighting down feelings of panic, self-doubt, and perfectionism. Complicating the matter is that this is the Fall of Covid-19. While school districts continue to waffle over what is best to do (truly a no-win situation for all parties), I am left wondering what my lessons will actually look like. How will the writing and reading workshops function in a classroom where students can't collaborate? How is that possible online? How can research-based classroom management strategies be implemented 6 feet apart? All of these questions and many more are enough to make any teacher's head spin. It is going to be quite the school year.
Thankfully, I also have courage and excitement to carry me through. I am hoping to use this blog to be very open and honest about my experience as a first year 7th grade ELA and Social Studies teacher. I hope to be reflective upon my own experiences and practices to provide insight to those looking into the teaching profession, and perhaps provide a relatable ally for anyone currently forging through their own first few years.
I envision this blog to be a living document. Let's see where the current takes me!
